Every student chooses between 19 separate athletic teams in a program that emphasizes participation and sportsmanship.
Students in grades 9-12 not participating in interscholastic athletics receive instruction twice a week in Physical Education. The Physical Education program offers varied activities in fitness, lifetime, and group sports as well as outdoor education
With an Upper School athletics program that boasts twenty-two different inter-scholastic sports programs ranging from soccer and basketball to fencing and squash, Hackley provides a greater variety of athletic offerings than any other school its size. Approximately 85% of Hackley upper school students participate in at least one interscholastic sport, and nearly twenty students from each graduating class receive the prestigious 3 x 4 award for participating in three sports a year for all four years of high school. Hackley has a long tradition of success as measured by participation and enthusiasm and also by our competitive results, boasting several independent school state championships during the last decade alone.
Hackley coaches, many of whom are the school’s academic teachers, bring a deep understanding of our young men and women to the playing field. These coaches teach Hackley student-athletes the life lessons of passion and sportsmanship that linger long after graduation.
