Hackley's 230 Middle School students, grades five through eight participate in a lively program that recognizes and supports the zest, energy and curiosity of the early adolescent. Field trips, assemblies, extracurricular programs, team sports, community service activities, and social events in the Middle School further educate our students and foster a greater sense of camaraderie. Fifth and sixth graders meet in homeroom-based classes, while seventh and eight graders enjoy individually scheduled classes and a wider array of extracurricular and social activities and a somewhat longer school day. This program allows us to provide a challenging, stimulating and age-appropriate education for students during these critical years of development.

The Middle School faculty expects our early adolescents to work within the framework of a traditional academic program. English, mathematics and history courses are taught at advanced levels; while emphasis on the sciences assume and the study of foreign languages expands. “Specials” classes are offered in music, art, drama, health, and technology.
