Athletes of the Week – Week of Sept. 11
Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.
Cross Country: Sebastian Mann ’26
Sebastian had a breakout race at the first meet of the season, the Somers Invitational. The course was muddy and temperatures and humidity were unseasonably high. Despite the conditions, Sebastian cut more than two minutes off his previous course best. Over the summer, Sebastian trained consistently and intelligently. His hard work paid off as he finished as Hackley’s second runner overall, helping Hackley place 8th of 17 teams. Congratulations Sebastian!
Cross Country: Emma Curran ’27
At the Somers Invitational, Emma Curran showcased an incredible amount of resilience and grit over a challenging 5k course. Emma placed 13th overall, 1st for Hackley, and helped the team place 5th overall. Rolling hills, mud and unseasonably high temperatures were all challenges that Emma overcame. She ran more than two minutes faster than her previous Somers personal best — a great sign for the upcoming season!
Boys’ Soccer: Ber Bennet ’24
After a tightly contested soccer match of the teams that faced each other in the NYSAIS Championship in 2022, Ber took control of the game. He scored the go-ahead goal with just under 12 minutes remaining and, to seal the victory, he scored the third goal of the game with just under 5 minutes to give the boys’ soccer team the first victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Fieldston.
