Introducing Our New Faculty & Staff

Hackley welcomes a number of new members to our community on the Hilltop.
Kristen Adams joins the Lower School faculty as an assistant teacher. She received her BS from SUNY Oneonta in Early Childhood and Childhood Education (B-6). Ms. Adams then taught preschool for a year in Orange County. She’s currently getting her Masters from Manhattanville in Literacy and Special Education, and played Rugby in college. She started working at with Rachel Mwakitawa in first grade at Hackley last year and will continue to work with Rachel this year.

Jed Aicher will be a leave replacement teacher for English 10 and English 11, covering the parental leave of Brigid Moriarty. Mr. Aicher holds a BA from Muhlenberg College where he majored in drama, English and education. He also holds an MFA in Acting from Florida State University. After college and before grad school, Mr. Aicher taught English and drama at a high school in Allentown, PA. He’s a familiar face to many at Hackley, having served as a leave replacement before and through his semi-regular work as a substitute teacher in Hackley’s Middle and Upper Schools.

Leila Braun is a new member of the English Department. This year, Ms. Braun will teach English 7 and English 9. In addition, she will be an academic advisor for 9th graders and coach cross country and fencing. Ms. Braun holds a BA from Haverford College where she majored in English and minored in Educational Studies. Prior to coming to Hackley, she taught at Culver Academies in Culver, IN. While at Culver, Ms. Braun taught English, coached cross country and fencing and supported the school’s residential life program as a dorm parent. Prior to Culver, she was a teaching intern at two American independent schools and another in Nantes, France. We are delighted to welcome Ms. Braun to Hackley.

Rob Constable joined the Alumni Development Staff as a Major Gifts Officer. He received his AB in Government and Law from Lafayette College and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management Prior to business school, he was a VP at NatWest Bank USA in their Media & Communications division, a specialized lending area. Following business school he worked for Disney/ABC, InterActive Corp, and CBS Corp, in various affiliate sales and marketing roles. Before joining Hackley, he was a Major Gifts Officer at Don Bosco Prep, an all-boys private day school in Ramsey, NJ.

Juliette Delaney joins the Lower School faculty as an assistant teacher. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology from Pace University in 2015. She enjoyed taking extra classes and graduated college in 3 years. Ms. Delaney also studied for a month in Rome. In 2015, she received a research award through Pace researched bad news response in romantic relationships. Her study used the Bad News Response Model, which was originally created in a study regarding doctors giving their patients bad news. She was able to present this study at a conference, which was a lot of fun! Ms. Delaney just graduated in May with her Master of Arts in Teaching from Manhattanville College. She will be working with Sue Harmon in 3rd grade this year.

Krysta Dudley joins Hackley’s Lower School faculty as a Lead Teacher in our first grade, working alongside Rachel Mwakitawa. A Hackley graduate from the class of 2001, Mrs. Dudley went on to Boston College, where she received her B.A. Following Boston College, she got her Master’s degree in Early Childhood education at Bank Street College. For the past ten years, she has been teaching kindergarten at Collegiate School, an all-boys school in Manhattan. A resident of Westchester, she looks forward to returning to her former school as a teacher.

Kathleen Farley joins Hackley’s Lower School faculty as a Lead Teacher in Kindergarten, working with Tia Donlevy. Mrs. Farley comes to us with eleven years of teaching experience. She began her career as a Special Education Teacher, earning tenure at Dobbs Ferry. Deciding that she did not want to be limited to special education, she gave up her tenure to pursue general elementary education. She has worked with all grade levels K-8 and brings a lovely, calm presence to all that she does.

Darby Golino joins us as a learning specialist for Upper and Middle School students. A position long anticipated, we are excited to be able to offer our students some additional academic support during the school day. Ms. Golino will work closely with faculty and our Dean Team to identify a small group of students with whom she will begin to work this year. Gia Harewood joins Hackley this fall as a leave replacement for 6th and 8th grade English. Ms. Harewood has been in education for several years, most recently coming to us from the Ethical Culture Fieldston School. She received her Ph.D in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland and a Master’s Degree in Applied Theater from CUNY School of Professional Studies. Ms. Harewood is a dynamic teacher whose warm and bubbly presence is quickly and easily felt!

Anastasia Kalona joins the Lower School as an assistant teacher. She likes to call herself a global citizen, drawing from several generations of mixed marriages and interfaith family members. Her father is Dutch Indonesian and her mother is Filipina. She attended United World College of Southeast Asia in Singapore as well as the University of Warwick in the U.K. She started off with a degree in Management and continued to pursue a postgraduate degree in Educational Studies, focusing on Inclusive Education. She worked at a special ed school and then an inclusive school in Washington D.C. as a remedial mathematics specialist for about six years before moving to NYC to join Avenues, also as their remedial math specialist. Ms. Kalona loves to play sports, especially golf, and likes to play and listen to music. She loves modern art and modern architecture. She will be teaching 3rd grade with Josh Samuel this year.

Dorian Mistano joins the Lower School this year as an assistant teacher. Ms. Mistano has her BA in psychology and special education from Marist College and her Masters in STEM from Hofstra University. She has taught in the suburbs of Long Island, a charter school in Far Rockaway, Queens, and most recently in Ossining. She plays the bass clarinet in a community band in White Plains. She loves to sew, and she loves reading. She will be teaching 2nd grade with Jane Dean and assisting Katherine Taylor in the LS Extended Day Program this year.

Will Moltner joins our Computer Science Department as an intern this year. A graduate of Northwestern, Mr. Moltner earned his degree in Computer Science, graduating summa cum laude. He has worked as a teacher’s assistant for several professors at Northwestern and was chosen as one of the lead assistants during his time as an undergrad. He turned down a job offer in an industry position because he knew that he wanted to pursue a career as an educator.

Jessica Shulman joins the Lower School as an assistant teacher. She received her Bachelor's in Elementary Education at Manhattanville College and is working towards her Master's in Special Education at Pace University. Ms. Shulman worked as a dance teacher at a summer camp and was a one-to-one teacher's aide at Scarsdale Middle School. She is also a puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. She’s currently raising her second puppy named Palmer. Her first puppy, Carter, graduated in February and is now a working guide dog in Cleveland, Ohio. She will be teaching 3rd grade with Stacy Kaegi this year.

Emily Van der Heijden joins Hackley Lower School as an assistant teacher. She attended the University of New Hampshire and received a B.A. in English Education and an M.ED in Elementary Education. She spent her Grad School internship year in a kindergarten classroom. In her free time, she enjoys baking and reading. Her mother worked at Hackley for a few years in the late 1980s. She will be teaching with Dawn Crainer in 2nd grade this year.
