Girls Track Gets Stronger In Winter Season

The Hackley Girls’ Winter Track Team had a strong season of building fitness and competition results, led by captains Bridget Barsanti ’18 and Julia Stewart-Wood ’18 and interim captain Carolyn Santangelo ‘18.
In the first meet of the season, in early December, most of the distance runners used the meet to continue their strength training and competed in the 300m and the 600m. Sprinters and throwers began competing in events at this meet they would continue to work and improve at all season. As the team returned from winter break, the distance team began moving into longer-distance training and began competing in longer events at meets. As the season progressed, distance runners varied their events more in order to work towards a specific event that they wanted to work hard in. Sprinters and throwers continued their work every day at practice, and saw their efforts pay off at meets later in the season. Many runners and throwers set impressive personal records at meets early in the season, and went on to better those times as the season went on.

The low temperatures outside often made it difficult to build up enthusiasm for running and throwing outside, but the bond that developed between teammates made the cold days and hard training easier. Thank you to Coach Karpinski, Coach Dejan, and Coach Gaines for a great season!

For their season-long performance, the following students received All-Conference honors:
