Boys Winter Track Team Grows and Thrives

The Hackley Boys’ Winter Track team enjoyed a strong season of training and competition. In addition to adding many new participants, the team performed well individually and collectively.
In November, the team started out strong with 26 boys on the team, a 35% increase over the previous year. Of those 26, about two-thirds ran distance, while the other third competed in sprinting and field events. Additionally, for more than half of these runners, it was their first Winter Track season.

At the beginning of December, the team had two Ivy League meets at the Armory in Manhattan. The team got off to a strong start, with many runners setting PRs in these first couple meets. After returning from break, they jumped back into racing with a meet at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island. For distance runners, this point also marked the beginning of a shift towards focusing on higher-mileage workouts and longer-distance races. After one more meet at the Armory, runners began focusing on the events they’d be racing at Ivy Championships, which was the last meet open to everyone on the team. There, the team saw amazing results from each athlete, which reflected an incredible overall improvement relative to November. Finally, at NYSAIS, the Boys’ team came in 4th after some more incredible performances from our top runners. Overall, it was a great season; thank you to Coaches Karpinski, Dejan, and Gaines for making it possible.

For their season-long performance, the following students received All-Conference honors:

Onye Ohia-Enyia ‘18 (300 M, 600 M)
Tahryam Toure ‘20 (High Jump, Long Jump)
Nicolas Pink ‘20 (Weighted Throw)
