Boys Basketball on the Upswing

The Boys Basketball Team had a solid season of growth and development. The season had many similarities to seasons in the past for Hackley Hornets where the boys fought hard at times and made some exciting plays worthy of ESPN Sports Center but also struggled through some adversity.
Through the first 10 games, the team was 5-5 and seemed to trending upward. After the key loss to our co-captain, Matt Jean ‘19, due to a finger injury the team spiraled into a losing streak that put a dent in their confidence. Over the next 10 games, they played some good basketball at times, beating a few good teams including a strong win over Friends at the annual Coaches vs. Cancer tournament. The team closed out the season with one of their best games versus a playoff team in Poly Prep, which proves they have what it takes to be a great team in the future.

All season long the team was led by our super sophomores, Enzi Teacher (15 pts., 4.5 assts.) and James Sexton-Holtmeier (11.45 pts., 8 rebs.), and anchored by other key players with break out years; Matt Jean ’19 (7.5 pts., 1.5 stls.), Walter Meyers ’19 (5 pts., 6 rebs.) and Spencer Diaz ’18 (4 pts., 2 stls., 4 assts.).

For his season-long performance, Enzi Teacher received 2nd Team All-Conference Honors.

The team is very young and this was certainly a great learning experience for the boys. Expectations are high for what is to come in the future.
