Boys and Girls Swim Teams Rewrite Record Books

After the first week of the winter season the Hackley swim teams quickly realized the potential they would have this year. With a large group of seniors retuning form last year there was no doubt the teams had their eyes set on great accomplishment.
The season began like so many would have hoped reeling off multiple wins against league foes. The highlight in the early part of the season would have been against Fieldston where seven pool records, three school records and two league records were broken.

The first to fall was the boys 200 medley relay record which was followed by Garrett Towne’s All American performances in the 100 fly(50.00) and 100 Back stroke(49.19) both were pool, school and Ivy league records. He then led off the 400 free relay with a 47.66 split to break the school 100 freestyle record held by Alex Gianino '10 and this led the team to a pool record of 3.24.5.

Yugo Tsukikawa came within 2/10th of a second of breaking Bruce Dunbar '85's 200 free style record of 1.35.5 set in 1985 and swam a 4.37 for the 500 free with no competition.

Post winter break the teams continued to improve with multiple dual meet wins which all came down to the championships. Hackley School has always been known for their swimmers and both teams flourish with far less numbers.

Georgia Panitz ‘18, Olivia Curran ‘19, Ella Jones ’20 and Mary Rotenberg ’21 all came home victorious for the Hornets. Garrett Towne ‘18, Liam Bogart ’18, Ryan Schaum ‘18, Kyle Spencer ’19 and Aiden Wilson ’20 and Thomas Sasso ’20 were also some of the highlights at the championships.

Overall, this was a terrific season for the Hackley Swim teams. Many personal records were set as well as four school or league records being broken.
