The Battle of Borodino -- in Hackley's Chapel

On Saturday, March 3rd, 26 students from across Hackley’s MS and US, as well as four students from outside Hackley, participated in a historical simulation based on the Battle of Borodino, which took place on September 7th, 1812. Huge thanks to HMGS (Historical Miniature Gaming Society) members John Manning, Roland Fricke, Peter Anderson, as well as veteran GM and Hackley English teacher Michael Canterino, and to Jared Fishman for running such a smooth, efficient game.

Vladimir Klimenko, who caught the end of the battle, summed the day up with a few choice words:

“Jared just pulled off a hell of an interesting activity. He had around 25-30 students in the Chapel today, Saturday, playing a simulation of a vitally important Napoleonic battle in 1812 Russia. There were many impressive aspects to the activity, which would not have been this fascinating if Jared himself had not devoted years of energy and untold dollars of personal savings into amassing the equipment. In any case, the kids seemed very much engaged. This went on for hours. What also seemed impressive is how well the middle school or’s played with and against the upper school students. Kudos to Jared. He is making historical simulation gaming a significant facet of Hackley life.”
