Jasmine Bayrooti ‘18 Competes at WESEF
On Saturday, March 17, 2018, Hackley senior Jasmine Bayrooti presented a poster of her work on the “Applications of Algebraic Topology for Video Compression and the Classification of Pseudo Random Number Generators” at the Westchester Science & Engineering Fair (WESEF). Read on.
Her tremendous work won her the Mu Alpha Theta Award for a "project involving the use of mathematics in a challenging, original, thorough and creative investigation,” as well as 4th place overall in Mathematics at WESEF. Jasmine completed this work under the mentorship of a Stanford University professor, and during an independent study with math teacher Keshena Richardson.
WESEF encourages students to participate in hands on science by providing a forum for showcasing the outstanding research of high school students in Westchester & Putnam counties of New York State and sponsoring the top students from the fair to advance to the INTEL International Science & Engineering Fair. This year, the fair had approximately 560 projects representing 44 high schools in our region including Westchester and Putnam Counties. The caliber of our students’ work was exceptional and rivals that of professional scientists!
