Each year, AAPT and the American Institute of Physics (AIP) sponsor a competition for high school students to represent the United States at the International Physics Olympiad Competition. The mission of the U.S. Physics Team Program is to promote and demonstrate academic excellence through preparation for and participation in the International Physics Olympiad.

How challenging is challenging? Out of 25 questions, the average score is an 8 out of 25. Connor Larson deserves a special congratulations for scoring an incredible 19/25 on the exam, and has been invited to sit for the second round on April 11. Approximately only 400 students (out of 5000) are invited to participate in the 2nd round. He received Honorable Mention in the Physics Olympiad Semifinalist exam.
