Geography Bee Finalist
7th grader Advith S. was one of the top 10 finalists out of 101 participants in the 2018 New York State National Geography Bee competition held on Friday, April 6th in Albany, New York. The Geography Bee is open to all students from 5th through 8th grade in the United States. Advith earned the right to represent Hackley by winning the school-wide Geo Bee this past winter.
In the State Finals in Albany, he answered all eight questions correctly in the preliminary competition which reduced the number of competitors from over 100 to 10, including besting the reigning State Champion who was in his bracket. Though he missed a question on earthquakes, Advith is a virtual encyclopedia when it comes to the countries, capitals, landforms, and water bodies of the world. His performance was the best showing of a Hackley MS student in the State Finals over the past 20 years.
