Alumni Connections Benefit AFER Class

Earlier this month the Advanced Forest Ecology Research class took their annual trip to the Bronx Zoo. What made this year’s trip so exceptional is that the class was taught by Julia Dunn, Hackley Class of 2012. Read on.
Julia had the students learning about predator prey relationships by examining skulls, solving a crime scene and making a food web. She brought out an Australian constrictor “Ace” and a 3 lined armadillo for us to see. She then took us through different parts of the zoo including the seabird colony and talked to us about the animals found there.

LiliAnna Khosrowshahi '18 said “Overall, I think the classroom aspect of the trip was super interesting and really helpful.” Cory Gorczycki '19 said “The trip once again reminded me about how diverse the earth is in terms of habitats and different species of animals. It is very interesting to also note how differently you look at the zoo from a younger age to a much older one.” Elon Middleton '18 said “it was cool to see the other birds that would just jet underwater to get food. It’s pretty funny to see something that's supposed to be an aerial being succeed underwater as well. But yeah overall, I had a fun time regardless of how ridiculously cold it was.”
