10 Years of Running to Class Day

Another Hackley tradition we love: the Class Day Run.  This year, 91 students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni celebrated the 10th Annual Class Day run.  Read on.
The tradition began as the brainchild of Toby Zitsman '09 his senior year, and the participants numbered two: Toby and his Cross Country coach Seth Karpinski.  Toby returned to join the run again this year, along with Coach Karpinski and 89 others representing all three divisions (US, MS, and LS). The route varied over the years before setting into the current course: beginning at dawn at the starting line in Van Cortlandt Park and ending on the Hackley Quad -- give or take 15 miles total.

Buses leave the Hackley Quad around 4:30 AM.  Participants are invited to run the full distance or just segments of the run, with "pick up" and "drop off" cars planned along the route.  And yes, running to the Hackley Quad means that the entire last stretch of the fun is UPHILL! Runners arrive, exuberant and exhausted, to a breakfast prepared for them on the Hilltop.
