US Debate Kicks off Season at Byram Hills Invitational

On Friday and Saturday, September 7th and 8th, 6 US Public Forum Debaters opened the debate season in impressive fashion at the Byram Hills Invitational tournament.

Juniors Neil Singh and Jared Tiliss, along with sophomores Alex Goldman and Arav Misra, and new freshman Zach Yusaf and Sid Shah, competed in 5 preliminary rounds of debate on the motion: Resolved: The United States should accede to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea without reservations.

The freshman team earned their first ever Public Forum debate win against a tough field and the sophomores, making their debut in Public Forum, ended with a 3-2 winning record. Juniors Singh and Tilliss reached semi-finals after going 4-1 in the preliminary rounds.

Overall, it was great to see experienced and new debaters willing to devote their time and energy to debate on the first weekend of the year.

There are multiple opportunities to get involved with US debate this year with multiple events held every month. See Mr. Fitzpatrick or Mr. Gilbert for details.
