Hackley Boys Varsity Soccer

Hackley Boys Varsity Soccer came into the 2018 with high expectations and plenty of experience, and the team achieved historic milestones despite falling short of their highest goals.
Ten seniors anchored the seasoned group led by captains Matt Braver, Andrew Tang, Patrick Wertimer and Will Catalano. It was a campaign of historic wins over very good teams but also some disappointing results in close games.

Along the way to an overall record of 9-6-4, the Hornets had historic wins at Riverdale for the first time in six years, a 3-0 shutout of Poly Prep at Poly, a second win against Riverdale at home and a 1-0 win over an excellent Dalton team to help secure a NYSAIS playoff spot.

With the #6 seed in the playoffs Hackley drew Riverdale again for third match-up in the season. Riverdale exacted revenge and moved on with a 3-1 win to end the Hornets' season. Despite several challenging injuries and setbacks, the Hornets never gave up the fight and showed steadfast resilience all the way to the end.

Senior standout Matt Braver as selected MVP for the second time, 1st Team All-League and led the team with 31 goals. Additional league honors went to junior goalie Patrick Schulman (1st Team) and Will Catalano (2nd Team).
