Spotlight on Hackley Science Research Students

Seniors Anastasia Popova and David Jiang are going the distance with impressive independent science research.
David Jiang ‘19 spent the past summer working with Stephen H. Tsang (MD, PhD), an acclaimed clinical geneticist at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at Columbia University. After reading over 90 research papers on recent developments to treat retinal disorders, David wrote a review article titled: "Revolution in Gene Medicine Therapy and Genome Surgery” which was published in the November issue of the Journal Genes. This exceptional work "highlights recent progress made in gene therapy and genome surgery for retinal disorders, and it provides an update on precision medicine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) treatment trials.”

Anastasia Popova ’19 spent her summer at the Garcia Center for Polymers at Engineered Surfaces at Stony Brook characterizing the "Antibiofilm Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized in situ on 3D Printed Polylactic Acid Scaffolds.” Anastasia and teammate Isha Brahmbhatt's (Ardsley High School) superb summer work earned them a spot to present their poster at the professional Materials Research Society Fall Meeting this past week (November 26, 2018) in Boston.
