Hackley Fencing 2018-19

Hackley Boys Fencing dominated this season, with undefeated Foil and Epee Teams and 2nd place in the league for the Saber Team, while Girls Fencing, small but feisty, captured an individual championship and two fifth place team finishes.
Boys Fencing
The Foil Team had its best season ever going undefeated on the road to finishing 1st in the League (12-0) and finishing 1st at the Team League Championships (6-0). This was the program’s first season and league team titles since 1992, as well as their first undefeated season ever. The team was led by Max Bryant ’21 with a 25-3 on the season, Max Calman ‘22 with a record of 25-3, Maxwel Lee ’22 with an 18-4 record and Alex Kirschgaessner ’21 with a record of 15-1.

Boys Epee also went undefeated in league with a 12-0 record. The team was led by Sam Perlmen ’20 who had a record of 25-7. James DiStefano ’20 had a record 17-7 and Josh Zhang ’19 posted a 15-2 season record, the best victory percentage in the league. Josh also won the league Individual Championships for a second time in three seasons. Henry Beyrich ’22 also had a great year with an 18-8 record. Henry tied for 3rd at the League Individual Championships.
Boys Saber finished 2nd in the league with an 8-2 record and won the Team League Championships with a 4-1 record.

In his first season on the team, Nicky Wind ’22 posted a 17-6 season record in addition to winning the League Individual Championship. Anthony Johnson ‘19, another first year fencer finished with a 12-6 record, taking home 2nd at the League Individual Championships.

Girls Fencing
Girls Foil Team finished 5th in the League with a season record of 8-8. Anna Sellon ‘19 led the squad with an 8th place finish and 30-11 record. Jessye Salmon ‘22 took 11th place in the league with a season record of 26-16. Eki Uzamere ’21 also competed well in her first full year on the squad.

Girls Epee Team finished 6th in the League with a 6-8 league record. Zaya Gooding ’19 led the team with a stellar 29-4 season record taking 1st place in the League. Zaya won the League Individual Championships bettering her 2nd place finish last year. Kathryn Fernholz ’20 finished with a 9-8 record.

Girls Saber Team placed 5th this season. Julia Magliato ’23 led the team with a 16-7 season record. She took 5th place at the League Individual Championships. Becky Steinberg ’20 had an 18-8 season record and placed 11th at the League Individual Championships.
