Boys Basketball Moving in Right Direction

The 2018-19 Hackley Hornets Boys Varsity Basketball team took positive steps forward in a season that found wins hard to come by, but new coach Zach Kuba focused on establishing a new culture in the program that included a positive atmosphere, the joy of practicing and playing basketball together, good communication and chemistry.
Statistical leader junior Matt Wiele led the offense with 15PPG and 7.3RPG. Senior Walter Myers also had a strong season as well dropping 11.6 PPG and grabbing 8.3 RPG. Richie Nuzum ‘19 (8.1 PPG, 4RPG, 4APG) was a dynamic leader all season and represented the best of our program. James Sexton-Holtmeier ’20 was also a double-digit scorer.

It was very exciting to see the season end on a 19-0 run against Collegiate where our seniors, Richie Nuzum, Matt Zampolin, Walter Myers, Ben Monroe, and Charlie Hite played the final minutes. Although the wins were difficult to find this season, the team felt collective confidence that the program is moving in a positive direction.
