Winter Track Athletes Set New Records

The 2018-2019 Winter Track Team consisted of 52 athletes and their coaches, Seth Karpinski, Dejan Maksimovic, Jessie Gaines, and Bill McLay. The team participated in several meets over the season, including four Ivy League meets, the New Balance Games, the New Jersey Classic, the Ivy League Championships, and the NYSAIS Championships.
Captains William Crainer ’19 (distance), Chuck Segal ‘20(sprints & jumps), Molly Rosenthal ‘19(distance), Tajah Burgher ‘20(throws), Princess Ohia-Enyia ‘20(sprints & jumps), and Julia Thomson ’20 (sprints & jumps) provided important leadership while helping motivate each athlete around individual and team goals.

Over the course of the season, each athlete saw improvements and set personal bests in their events. This includes setting new Hackley Indoor Track records by Princess Ohia-Enyia ’20 in the 600m (1:40.29) at NYSAIS, Jonah Gorevic ’21 in the 1600m (4:39.45) at the Ivy League Championship, Jonah Gorevic in the 3200m (9:53.44) at NYSAIS, and the boys 4x800m team (8:55.69) of Jonah Gorevic ‘21, Brendan DiStefano ‘22, Hudson Kelley ’20 , and Will Rifkin ‘21, at NYSAIS. The Girls Team was particularly successful with a 3rd Place finish at both the Ivy League and NYSAIS Championships.

In the final meet of the season, four girls qualified for the Federation Indoor Track meet at Ocean Breeze Park on Staten Island on March 2nd. Jasmyne Phillips set new personal best in 55m hurdles with a time of 9.10, Tajah Burgher threw weight 25-01.50 while Gracelynn Green threw 26-00.25, and Princess Ohia Enyia set a new school record in 600m run with 1:39.50.
