Students Particpate in WESEF

On Saturday, March 16th, seniors Anastasia Popova and Josh Zhang (IRP) were among the 670+ students from the region that participated in the Westchester Science and Engineering Fair (WESEF).
Josh’s project on the “Expression Analysis of REG1 proteins in ATF6-deficient mice and its relation to acute pancreatitis” won an Excellence in Medical Research Award, presented by the Westchester Academy of Medicine.

Anastasia worked with Isha Brahmbahtt, from Ardsley High School, on the “Characterization of a novel method for the in situ deposition of silver nanoparticles on 3D-printed polyactic acid to synthesize an anti-bacterial implants material.”

Their project  won a 1st place prize in their category, and was selected to go to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) from May 12-18, 2019 -- the premier science fair in the world, and the subject of a recent National Geographics documentary that highlighted the scope and intensity of the research that is required to achieve a spot in the fair.

Congratulations to Anastasia and Josh!
