Exploring Chinese Culture - in Queens!

On Friday, April 12th, Hackley's upper school Chinese language students traveled to Flushing, Queens to explore Chinese culture close to home.
The field trip was funded by a grant as part of Hackley’s membership in the Asia Society’s Chinese Language Initiative. The group began their day at a local supermarket where they worked in teams to find traditional Chinese fruits, vegetables, candies, rice, and tofu. Next, they headed to the Royal Queen Restaurant for a traditional dim sum lunch where they had the opportunity to use and expand their Chinese speaking, listening and reading skills. The students sampled famous Chinese dishes such as soup dumplings, duck tongue, and chicken feet! After returning to Hackley, the Chinese students presented their finds from the grocery store, and shared their favorite foods of the day. It was an exciting day filled with Chinese learning and delicious.
