When she learned that her subject's daughter, Ilyasah Shabazz, was coming to speak to Hackley Middle School students this year, she wrote a letter to Ilyasah and asked her brother, a Middle School student, to deliver it.  Some weeks later, a box arrived at Hackley Lower School addressed to Frida, containing two books -- Ilyasah Shabazz's Betty Before X and Malcolm Little: The Boy Who Grew Up to Be Malcolm X -- personalized to her by the author.. Ilyasah wrote, "I am very proud of you and am especially proud that we share a bond in our education at Hackley."
