Hackley Girls Varsity Lacrosse 2019

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse Team had another successful season, finishing with a 15-4 overall record, winning the Ivy League, with an undefeated league record of 12-0 for a 8th straight season, and defending the NYSAIS Championship with a definitive 18-7 win over Rye Country Day.
This NYSAIS championship was the team’s third in four years. The championship game was illustrative of all that this team accomplished and the ways in which they grew throughout the course of the season, starting with our pre-season Spring Break trip to Clearwater, Florida. The team scored a total of 294 goals and allowed only 146 goals against. These statistics and records, however, only tell a small part of their story. After losing a tough overtime loss to Rye Country Day early in the season, the team set their sights on their goal—meeting them again to gain redemption for that loss. They challenged themselves with the highest competition in powerhouses Greenwich Academy, North Shore and Bronxville. They dominated in their other games—beating teams by no less than 10 goals in each of their 15 wins. And when they did get back to the championship, and had a second chance to play Rye Country Day, they played a near perfect game and continued their dominance with their resounding victory; they got their redemption. Two players hit statistical milestones this year—Julia Thomson ’20 scored her 100th career goal this season and Leah Holmes ’20 scored her 200th goal and 100th assist this season. The success of this team was due to their endless hard work, their keen passion, their true heart and the way that this all led them to grow into a formidable team—they also happen to be extremely talented! This group of 21 (including for the first time in HGVL history two eighth-grade players) was led by their seven amazing seniors who modeled all of these attributes and balanced their intensity with a lot of fun. We are going to greatly miss all of them: Valentina Castro, Kit Greenberg, Daamiya Mir, Isabelle Thomas, Kendall Wieland, and captains Tatiana Monteleone and Maddie White.
