Fall 2019 Girls Tennis

Hackley Girls Varsity Tennis Team had a historic 2019 fall season, going undefeated, with a 13-0 record, and winning the Ivy Championship for the first time in school history.
The doubles team of Sadie Nipon and Maya Miller was the NYSAIS doubles champions (also a first)!

Our number one singles player, Audrey Pizzolato, played high quality tennis throughout the season and demonstrated a tremendous commitment to giving it her best in every match. Our second and third singles players, sisters Sam and Grace Rainero, had great seasons. They both earned 1st team all-Ivy, losing only one match each. Amazingly, 1st doubles (Sadie and Maya) and second doubles (Alex Gray and Maggie Broaddus) went undefeated! Both of our doubles teams combined viscous volleys, strong serves, and incredible teamwork to earn 1st team All-Ivy. In fact, Maggie has been All-Ivy four consecutive years (another first)!

In addition to these seven members of the team, the remaining players played a pivotal role in our season. Seniors Leah Holmes, Leah McKirgan, Becky Strauss, and Emily Afriyie did a tremendous job of not only improving throughout the season, but also pushing themselves and their teammates to be the best HGVT teammates possible. In addition, 8th grader Asahi Goods filled in the starting lineup when necessary and played impressive, and winning tennis (she too did not lose a match).

Overall, it was a true team effort that led to the many individual and team accomplishments.
Perhaps more impressive than any of these amazing accolades was the enthusiasm, energy, team spirt, passion, sportsmanship, and comradery that the girls brought to the courts each and every day. Led by captains Leah Holmes and Maggie Broaddus, the team chemistry could not have been any better. This, along with the team’s genuine love for tennis, their relentless support of one another, and their constant desire to improve, made it a unique and truly memorable season.
