Fall 2019 Girls Soccer

The 2019 Girls Varsity Soccer Team, led by seniors Alex Cohen, Sofia Graziano (captain), Annabel Ives, Sophia Masotti (captain), Jordan Miller, and Julia Thomson (captain), finished the season with a 9-5-3 record.

HGVS welcomed eight new players to the team for the 2019 season: senior, Alex, juniors Ki-Ki Abbey and Maddy Moskow, sophomore Ashley Morgner, and freshmen Callie Duggan, Isabella Fauber, Elizabeth Rudge, and Ava Troso.

HGVS had a solid and competitive returning squad, which consisted of seniors Sofia Graziano, Annabel Ives, Sophia Masotti, Jordan Miller, Julia Thomson, juniors Hadley Chapman and Sophia Thomas, sophomores Campbell Johnson, Olivia Kearns, Sophie Miller, and Quinn O’Halloran, and freshmen Sophia Petriello and Welyn Waterhouse.

HGVS finished third in the Ivy League with a record of 6-4-2. Highlights of the Ivy League season include going 1-0-1 against Poly Prep, the reigning NYSAIS champion and eventual Ivy League and NYSAIS champion, beating Trinity (2018 Ivy League champion) in the Dave Allison Memorial Game, defeating Dalton in the last five minutes of the game on Randall’s Island, and outscoring Horace Mann 6-0 in two games.

Non-conference highlights include an undefeated record of 2-0-1, defeating rival Rye Country Day 3-1, and shutting out Masters with a score of 5-0.

HGVS received the three seed in the 2019 NYSAIS tournament where they made it to the semi-final round for the second year in a row. Throughout the season, HGVS continued to live by their team motto, “Whatever It Takes,” as they scored 30 goals in 17 games, shutting out five opponents, and having eleven of twenty-one players contribute either a goal and/or assist.

Top individual season statistics include Sophia Thomas. with 10 goals and 8 assists (28 points), Welyn Waterhouse with 7 goals and 4 assists (18 points), Callie Duggan with 2 goals and 6 assists (10 points), Campbell Johnson with 4 goals and 1 assist (9 points), and goalie Sofia Graziano making 117 saves.
