Wenkai Qin ’14 visits Hackley’s ISRP

On Friday Dec 6, 2019, Hackley’s IRP had the pleasure of hosting alum Wenkai Qin as a guest speaker. Students were engaged with Wenkai’s stories of engineering school at Harvey Mudd, as well as his summer research experiences abroad in China and Japan.

Wenkai shared many of the lessons he learned from his experiences, and many of our students commented "how he was able to manage his problems by breaking them into medium problems and then lots of little problem [would be] helpful everywhere in life.” Another student said "our guest speaker inspired me to want to try and take some of its challenging classes as I get older….I did not realize that projects in college could be so cool!!!“ Finally, all of them found that his rocket projects in college were amazing, and that his job in aerospace defense is awesome!

We are grateful to Wenkai for taking the time to come talk to our future scientists.

All alumni/parents with present or past experiences in scientific research have a standing invitation to back and visit the Independent Research Program. Our future scientists love hearing your stories, and these talks are formative to their careers. If you are interested, please reach out to Dr. Andrew Ying.
