Understanding Athletic Recruiting

On Sunday, January 26, at 1:00 p.m., in Allen Hall, Hackley's College Counseling Office and Athletics Department will offer a program on college athletic recruitment. This meeting is open to all, but since it focuses on the college athletic recruitment process, it necessarily targets very strong athletes.

Typically, approximately ten Hackley students are actively recruited by colleges each year based on their athletic prowess. We encourage our strong athletes to talk with their coaches about whether they might realistically expect to play at the college level. Those students for whom this may be a possibility will want to understand how the recruitment process works, what steps they may want to take to assess their skills and make themselves stronger athletes, and how and when they might begin to make contact with college coaches and enable those coaches to assess their athletic abilities.

Our guest speakers will be Jeff Durso-Finley and Holly Burks Becker, who are considered experts on the subject of athletic recruitment and college counseling. They are Co-directors of College Counseling at the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, and they also travel to schools across the country to speak about the intricacies of the athletics recruitment process. Jeff’s book, Understanding Athletic Recruiting, will be availalbe for purchase at the event.

To attend, please RSVP here. This program is for both students and parents and is open to families outside of the Hackley community as well.
