Hackley Boys Varsity Basketball 2019-20

The 2019-20 Hackley Hornets Boys Varsity Basketball Team finished the season on a very high note, winning two of our last three games, including an exciting 79-75 win on Senior Night versus Leman Prep. It was a great way to honor the four seniors, Matt Wiele, James Sexton-Holtmeir, Enzi Teacher, and Andrew Abrons.

The team came together as the season progressed. The beginning of the season was very rough as the team started out 1-6. What made the start most difficult was the fact four of those six losses were by a combined 10 points. This could have been a breaking point, but the senior group demonstrated maturity and tremendous leadership making sure to keep spirits high. The Boys battled to a tie for 6th Place in a very competitive Ivy League, and finished the season with an overall record of 6-17 (5-8 in the last 13 games).

The seniors Matt and James led the way in scoring with 16 points per game and 10.5 points per game respectively. Both of these players capped their careers with thunderous dunks on Senior Night. The High Points Game on the year goes down as one the greatest individual performances in school history. Matt Wiele scored 44 Points himself in a tough league game Dec 13, 2019 at Horace Mann. We also received solid scoring contributions this season from Enzi (8ppg) and Charlie Lee ’22 (9ppg). Matt and James also led the team in rebounding (10 and 5.5 per game respectively).

The season ended well as the team sent off the beloved seniors the right way while continuing a path towards a more successful culture that the younger players will lead forward. Next season will be a whole new look for the Hackley Boys Varsity Basketball team and everyone is excited to see what the future holds!
