Hackley Boys Varsity Squash 2019-20

The Boys Varsity Squash Team concluded their 2019-20 season last weekend at High School Nationals. The team was led at No.1 by Ryan Chen ‘21, who excelled, especially in the match against Tabor Academy against a very strong Egyptian player.

A great team spirit was created by the Captain, JB Rosenthal ‘21, who also led by example on the court. The team finished 6th in Division Three. All members of the team that attended should be very proud of their effort, on and off the court as they gave great credit to their school, their sport, their coaches, but especially themselves.

Prior to Nationals, the team won a tough NYSAIS semifinal against Horace Mann (4-3), to reverse an early season loss. Wins for Chen, Rosenthal and Mital, with Greg Reich winning the deciding match, when the score was tied 3-3. The Boys then competed well pushing a strong team from Poly Prep in the final but falling a bit short (1-6).

The boys finished with 15 wins and 9 losses for the season, 2nd place in NYSAIS, and 6th in Division 3 at High School Nationals. Their overall league record was 11-6. Many great performances were seen on the court and we can look forward to the Hackley Squash Program moving forward next season, with all players eligible to return, plus some talented Middle School players moving up to join the squad.
