Hackley Varsity Indoor Track & Field 2019-20

Hackley's Winter Track & Field athletes each saw improvement this season, setting personal bests in their events, with new records set, and strong Ivy League and NYSAIS finishes, and four athletes qualifying for the Federation Indoor Track meet.

The 2019-2020 Winter Track Team consisted of 47 athletes and their coaches, Dejan Maksimovic, Seth Karpinski, Bill McLay, Kristyn Polucha, and Graham Crawford. Captains Alex Evangelidis, Christopher Arnold, Charles Segal, Kiara Abbey, Tajah Burgher and Josh Saha provided important leadership while helping motivate each athlete around individual and team goals.

The team participated in several meets over the season, including five Ivy League meets, the Jim Mitchell Invitational, the Molloy Stanner Games, the New Balance Games, the Varsity Classic, the Ivy League Championships, and the NYSAIS Championships.

Over the course of the season, each athlete saw improvements and set personal bests in their events. This included new Hackley Indoor Track records by Josh Saha ‘20 in 55m hurldes (7.93) at the Ivy League Championship, Jonah Gorevic ’21 in the 1000m (2:39.58) and 1600m (4:26.25) at the Ivy League Championship, Jonah Gorevic ‘20 in the 3200m (9:29.61) at NYSAIS, the boys 4x800m team (8:38.01) of Jonah Gorevic ‘21, Brendan DiStefano ‘22, Charlie Rudge ‘21, and Will Rifkin ‘21, and the boys DMR Relay team (10:52.71) of Jonah Gorevic ‘21, Brendan DiStefano ‘22, Charlie Rudge ‘21, and Josh Saha ‘20 at the Varsity Classic Meet.

On the Team level, the Girls Team was very successful with a 2nd Place finish at the Ivy League Championships and 3rd place at the NYSAIS Championships. Boys came in 3rd in the Ivy League and 4th at the NYSAIS Championship.

In the final meet of the season, four students qualified for the Federation Indoor Track Meet at Ocean Breeze Park on Staten Island on March 7th. Jasmyne Phillips ’21 set new personal best in long jump with a distance of 16-10, Gracelynn Green ’21 set new personal best in weight throw with a distance of 29-8.75, Charles Segal ’20 set new personal best in triple jump with a distance of 40-1.5, and Princess Ohia Enyia ’20 in 600m run with 1:40.47.
