Seniors of the Week: 10/30/20

The Athletics department celebrates the Class of 2021 through a Seniors of the Week series honoring Hackley’s graduating athletes.

Alex Kyimpopkin '21 - Cross County
K-pop was a late addition to the cross country program, but has had a profound effect on it. His optimism, support of his teammates, and willingness to push himself during workouts have earned him well-deserved support and respect from his teammates and coaches alike. Alex is also a vital member of the Fencing program at Hackley.  As a member of the Saber squad, Alex was part of a team that brought home a league championship in 2020.

Ethan Lin '21 - Cross Country
As his running career blossomed, so did Ethan’s love for the sport. Not only has Ethan forged exceptionally strong friendships with his teammates, he has also trained himself up to running with the second fastest training group on the team. Ethan is known best for his workouts: no matter the speed or distance of the repeat, Ethan is always chatting away as his team mates labor.

Lily Napach '21 (Captain) - Cross Country
This is Lily’s third year on the cross country team. Due to her unwavering efforts, her 5K times have improved over the years. However, her commitment to the team extends far beyond her times. This year her teammates voted Lily captain as she has always led by example. Whether helping out with the middle school practices, preparing goody bags for after races, warming her teammates up before a race, or holding strength workouts on Zoom, Lily is a dedicated leader and wonderful role model for all. Finally, her coaches have always appreciated her optimistic attitude and the high standards she consistently set for herself.

Hadassah Henderson '21 - Field Hockey
What a wonderful opportunity to have Hadassah join the Varsity Field Hockey team as a senior!  She has brought both her amazing spirit and natural athleticism to our hockey family.   Hadassah’s “all in” attitude and willingness to try anything has made her so much fun to watch, especially as a goalie.  Hadassah is not afraid to step in front of any shot, and her role as the “last defender” has presented a major challenge to her opposition.  Perhaps the highlight to date has been watching Hadassah during a “shoot out”.  Hadassah’s incredible footwork, game sense, and aggressive play, virtually shut down the five field players who competed against her.  She was nothing short of outstanding!  We have loved every minute of having Hadassah on our team, and we just wish she had joined us earlier.  She will be sorely missed next year!

Gainsley Korengold '21 - Field Hockey
Gainsley is a three-year varsity field hockey player, and an integral part of our team’s success the last two years.  Gainsley is incredibly consistent; she has a quiet strength that makes her both the consummate teammate and a great threat to her opponents.  Gainsley doesn’t let anything rattle her, which makes her role as a midfielder all the more important.  She is always in the right place, and she is able to support her teammates in transition, break up a midfield run for the other team, and provide power in our offensive end.  Gainsley has tallied a total of 10 points in her varsity career.  She also provides that sense of calm that her teammates depend on.  Gainsley is our rock, and she has played the same role throughout this challenging season.  Gainsley continues to step up as a player and a teammate in a way that unites us all and keeps us together; we will certainly miss her next year!

Will Kneisley '21 (Captain) - Football
Will Kneisley is one of the most impactful two-way players in the MIFL.  He made the move to the offensive line as a sophomore when the need arose, and has gone onto be the leader of the unit for two years running.  The consummate student of the game is in charge of all of our blocking schemes.  Defensively, Kneisley runs our playbook as the middle linebacker.

Charlie Rosenblum '21 (Captain) - Boys’ Soccer
Charlie is a four-year varsity player and part of the defensive core along with classmates Samson Bennett and Luca McAdams.  Charlie’s speed and physicality are hallmarks of his game.  If you tangled with Charlie, you knew it and felt it.  A tenacious defender and tough as nails, Charlie made it hard on all opponents that crossed his path.  Quiet on the outside but loud on the inside, Charlie is a great teammate and someone you always want on your side.

Maddy Moskow '21 - Girls’ Soccer
Maddy has been an integral member of the girl’s soccer program for four years.  Maddy’s solid work ethic, supportive nature, strong defensive skills, and willingness to do anything to help her team succeed are qualities of the ultimate teammate; any coach would be lucky to have a player like Maddy on their team.  Maddy stepped into a defensive role for HGVS when the team needed it the most during her junior year, and she did a tremendous job shutting down her opponents. Not only is Maddy a trustworthy player, she is a trustworthy person who we will miss having on HGVS next year!

Sadie Nipon '21 (Captain) - Girls’ Tennis
Sadie has been a four year starter on HGVT and has put together quite an impressive record over that time! Her play at 1st doubles has been exemplary and her NYSAIS championship last year with Maya Miller, along with a second place finish at Federations, cemented her legacy on HGVT! In addition, last year Sadie’s dominant performance on the court contributed to HGVT going undefeated and winning their first Ivy league championship ever. Perhaps more impressive than Sadie’s record is her dedication to the team and her incredible leadership. This year as a captain, Sadie leads by example and is looked up to by all of her teammates. She has left an unforgettable mark on HGVT!
