Preparing for the New School Year 8/07/20

Dear Hackley Families,

As you likely have heard the Governor will allow schools across all districts to reopen in New York State. In addition to following these local and state developments closely, we continue to monitor the progress of school openings around the country and the world. The updated reopening plan that follows has been informed by the comments and questions expressed by families and employees through the July 15 survey. The issues are complex, dynamic, and highly personal, and I have endeavored to consider them through the eyes of our children, as a fellow parent, and as Hackley’s Head of School.

We received over 100 questions from the family survey, along with numerous helpful comments and suggestions. These inputs alongside those of our faculty and staff resulted in the FAQ linked below.

The updated version of the reopening document can be found
here, and it will live on both HOL and on the COVID-19 page on Hackley’s website. As always, these policies and procedures are subject to change as the situation evolves. The FAQ can be found here.

I invite you to review both of these documents before joining me and Hackley’s Leadership Team for a Zoom town hall on Wednesday, August 12 at 7:00 PM. Log-in information can be found on the HOL calendar under this event.

We believe the steps we are taking will enable us to best deliver on our mission and continue educating our students and exercising care for our entire community. I remain ever grateful for the partnership and engagement of families throughout this process. Your care for our students, faculty, and staff shines through in moments like these.

Forward together,
Michael C. Wirtz P ’29 ’31
