Performing Arts

Kiri Fitzpatrick '21
As an oboist and English horn player in the band and chamber ensembles, a singer and leader in the Female Chorus and a cappella group, and musical mentor to Middle School musicians, Kiri's community-minded spirit and pursuit of musical excellence is inspirational. Sharing her music off-campus, Kiri was a member of the oboe section for the Greater Westchester Youth Orchestra, performing at Lincoln Center under the direction of the late Vincent Lionti. She was selected to All-County Band, Area All-State Band, has presented several community service recitals at Hoff-Barthelson School of Music, and was a featured oboist at the Blue Ridge Chamber Music Camp in Charlottesville Virginia. Kiri's musical education will continue in college. Watch and listen to Kiri play Paladihle here.

Visual Arts

Mason Chapman '21
No one in the visual arts department will forget when, as a 10th grader, Mason exhibited a stunning, 5’ tall oil painting in the annual Allen Memorial Hall Upper School Art Show. His landscape painting was one of the highlights of that year’s entire exhibit - wowing, most notably, the AP seniors who had just hosted their annual Thesis exhibition the week before. It is rare for an AP senior to tackle oil painting so skillfully - let alone a sophomore at such an ambitious scale! Mason has been making art and exploring the creative process all his life. He started painting with acrylics as a 5th grader, and has not stopped since: taking summer oil painting classes since the 8th grade - and more recently building an impressive body of oil paintings of the South Carolina landscape for his senior AP Studio Art sustained investigation portfolio. A serious and dedicated artist, Mason is one of the leaders of this year’s talented AP group: inspiring his peers with his dedication to his craft, and contributing thoughtful insights during group critiques. Keep your eyes open for the new 7’ canvas Mason is currently stretching up in the senior studio!

Will Rifkin '21
Will joined the photography program as a 10th grader in 2018. Over the years, he has demonstrated a deep connection to photography, especially nature photography. Having done very well in both Foundations of Photography and Intermediate Photography, Will is submitting an AP portfolio this year focusing on landscapes. As part of the Sustained Investigation section of the portfolio, Will travels to various locations within an hour's drive from home to observe the light changes during morning and afternoon hours, photographing according to how he feels. The accompanying image to this feature is the stunning result of one of his observations.
