Seniors of the Week: 2/5/21

The Athletics department celebrates the Class of 2021 through a Seniors of the Week series honoring Hackley’s graduating athletes.

Isabella Monteleone '21 - Girls’ Basketball
Bella was one of our most improved players during her junior year and was the spark we needed in key situations. While we won’t get to see Bella on the court this season, we are thrilled to have her on the team as team captain.  She is one of our most dedicated players. Her teammates look up to her and she always leads by example. She is always one of the first players to arrive at practices, often leads warm ups, and she always listens to instruction and makes adjustments quickly. We have no doubt she will go on to do amazing things post-Hackley.

Nick Khoo '21 - Boys’ Squash
Nick was unable to demonstrate his skills on the field his senior year, but nevertheless he has made a lasting impression on his teammates. During practice, Nick worked hard alongside his team. As his teammates say, Nick is hard working, a strong competitor, and above all, an awesome friend. We wish him all the best for his future.

Nina Mital '21 - Girls’ Squash
Nina consistently demonstrates a high level of commitment and dedication to the game, motivating and encouraging those around her. She has worked extremely hard to achieve her goals in squash; finishing the past season ranked at number 5 in the country. Nina will no doubt continue to achieve her goals alongside her teammates at Yale next season. Good luck next season!

Will Kneisley '21 - Wrestling
Will is hardworking, dedicated, responsible, honorable, and courageous. Will had to sit out his junior year due to injury, but he was at every match supporting his teammates and friends.  Despite not wrestling last season, Will was voted captain his senior year, which is a true testament of his teammates' respect and admiration.  He is a true leader, working hard and always being supportive of his teammates.  We will miss Will next year.

Jasmyn Phillips '21- Indoor Track and Field
Jasmyn is an amazingly consistent and committed athlete. She is always ready to practice and compete, always motivated to help teammates, and she brings lots of good vibes. Jasmyn understands how important it is to learn new skills in sports and in life, and it is not unusual to hear her talking about diet and motivation for track meets. It is so great to see her teaching her teammates how to run over the hurdles and how to long jump. Jasmyn definitely makes our track team stronger.

Ava Roberts '21 - Indoor Track and Field
Ava is a perfect example of the grit and tenacity that have become synonymous with Hackley Running. She runs each repeat like it is her last, pouring every last ounce of energy and effort into it. Her dedication to the program beyond scheduled practice time is inspiring. Each summer, she logs endless miles in her training plan and almost every weekend during the school year you can find her at Rockies enjoying a run with a teammate. Ava has also earned quite the reputation amongst her teammates for hosting her now-famous ab workouts. The program looks forward to following her half marathon and marathon career post-Hackley!

Jonah Gorevic '21 - Indoor Track and Field
Jonah’s drive and desire to succeed are unparalleled. Early in his running career, Jonah set two goals, he wanted to be the hardest worker in program history and wanted to lead the boys’ team to their first NYSAIS title in school history. Jonah has given five years of complete dedication to the distance program. He can proudly leave the Hilltop this spring saying he achieved both goals he set. Jonah will graduate this spring as the fastest boys’ runner in school history. This title could not go to a more deserving individual. Ask Jonah what he will remember most about his Hackley running career and I am certain he won’t mention any of his individual school records, rather he will talk at lengths about what he with his teammates were able to accomplish as a group.

Evan Lassiter '21 - Indoor Track and Field
Evan is a great role model. He is optimistic, positive, and always looking to improve. He has immense passion for the sport, and he demonstrates it through hard work and dedication. Often, Evan inspires us by doing more than expected—completing extra sprints and stretches at the end of practice. He is always ready to help young athletes and upperclassmen, and always cheers them on. Evan’s positive energy is well appreciated in every practice, and he plays a big part in creating a strong team. We wish him all the best in his future.
