Senior Artists of the Week: 3/19/21

The Visual and Performing Arts Departments celebrate the Class of 2021 through the Senior Artists of the Week series honoring Hackley’s graduating artists.

Performing Arts

Allison Oh '21
Allie has been a longtime member of Hackley's orchestra and chamber music groups since she joined the string program in the Lower School. A committed member of the groups, she has represented our school at All-County and Area All-State orchestra festivals, and she continues to show dedication to music at Hackley. Allie recently gave an outstanding performance in the Mozart G minor piano quartet on the Upper School Orchestra virtual concert released this week. A talented violinist, Allie brings a hard-working, positive attitude to everything she does. We will miss her!

Visual Arts

Jessie Bard '21
Jessie joined Foundations of Photography in 2018 and has since been an inspiration to her peers and teachers through her work in both Foundations and Intermediate Photography classes. This year, Jessie will submit an AP Portfolio, focusing her Sustained Investigation theme on Water.

Jessie is inspired most by her passion for sailing, her summers spent on the Long Island Sound, and an interest in exploring various abstract forms created by water and light. Her incredible photographic works are formed from her deep connection to nature. She spends her free time observing how changing light and weather affect the appearance of water. In her staged images, she utilizes dyes, flower/plant leaves, soap, and oil to create abstract patterns, color, texture, and lines that contrast with her images from direct observations. She finds this approach helps her to expand her visual vocabulary. Jessie’s talent and determination continue to shine through her photography, and we look forward to the beautiful art sure to come out of her Sustained Investigation.
