Athletics Highlights #4

This week's highlights feature three Athletes of the Week, a Team Report on the Field Hockey team, and an announcement about the upcoming Ivy Prep League Girls’ Tennis Championships in which the Hackley Girls’ Varsity Tennis team has received the number one seed!

Championships Season Begins

The Girls’ Varsity Tennis team has received the number one seed in the upcoming Ivy Prep League Girls’ Tennis Championships. HGVT is currently undefeated in the league (second straight season) and has not lost a single game in any match played this Fall.  Come out and support the team for their semifinal match on Friday, October 22 at 4:00 p.m. Congratulations to the team and coaching staff! Athletes of the Week

Kaitlyn Qu '22, Varsity Field Hockey: Kaitlyn scored four goals this week, including a hat trick in the first half of the Riverdale game. She has been a stellar player all season and has taken it to a new level in the last week.

Harrison Riopel '23, Varsity Football: Harrison led the way for the Hornets in their win over Fieldston. Harrison rushed for 123 yards and scored 3 rushing TD’s, he passed for 67 yards and had 1 passing TD. On defense, he had 8 tackles.  

Grace Rainero '22, Girls’ Varsity Tennis: Grace has started the season 7 – 0, and is playing all-around excellent tennis! Her strong play and smart strategy have helped her in each of her convincing victories.

Team Report

Hackley Varsity Field Hockey is off to a strong start with a 5-1 overall record and a 3-0 league record. The team had big wins over Holy Child and Fieldston, always strong competition. The team is led by senior captains Destiny Stephen '22, Colin Ives '22, Kaitlyn Qu '22, and Ameera Shaban '22. Catie O’Rourke '23 leads the team in goals and assists with 8 and 9 respectively. Over the course of the season to date, 13 different players have contributed to our scoring. Junior goalie Avery Leighton and the defensive efforts of the team have logged three shut-outs. HVFH has outscored its opponents 35-7 in our six games. The team looks forward to defending our league championship and having a strong performance in our non-league games and the post-season.
