Athletics Highlights #7

This week's highlights feature IVY League and NYSAIS playoff updates.

Cross Country
Eve Spencer '22 won the Ivy League Cross Country Championships on October 29. Eve had an exciting close race but eventually pulled away from the competition late to be crowned Champion. The girls’ team placed third overall with Eve, Skyler Safriet '22, and Willow Quattrone '23 earning all-league honors. On the boys’ team, Brendan DiStefano '22 placed third overall, with Asher Beck '24, Travis Knaggs '24, and Brendan earning all-league honors. 

Cross Country will compete at the NYSAIS Championships on Sunday, November 7 at Van Cortlandt Park. Boys at 3:00 p.m. and girls at 3:15 p.m.  

Football
Varsity Football will play their last game of the season against Fieldston on Saturday, November 6, under the lights on Pickert Field at 6:00 p.m.

Boys’ Soccer
The boys’ soccer team had an incredible second half on November 3 coming from behind to defeat Trinity 2-1 in the NYSAIS Quarterfinals. They will host Collegiate on November 5 at 2:30 PM at Hackley in the NYSAIS Semifinals. Update! Boys’ soccer has advanced to the NYSAIS Championships on Sunday at Manhattanville College. The team had a decisive 3-1 win over Collegiate in the semifinals and will be playing the 1 seed, Masters School at 5:30 p.m. 

Girls’ Soccer
Girls’ Soccer suffered a heart-breaking loss to their familiar foe Poly Prep on November 3 in the NYSAIS Quarterfinals.

Girls' Tennis
Sam Rainero '22 singles, and the doubles team of Maya Miller '22 and Remi Myers '24, have advanced to the Championships of NYSIAS tennis. On November 3, Sam (6-4, 4-6, 11-9) had a very exciting match that went three sets to decide. Maya and Remi (6-1, 6-2) continue to dominate their competition. They will be playing Friday, November 5 for the NYSAIS Championships at Cary Leeds Tennis Center in the Bronx at 4 p.m.
