Hackley History Department Hosted a Roundtable Discussion

About 50 students and a dozen faculty attended the community time event in King Chapel, which was hosted by the History Department.  Students shared their memories of January 6, 2021, and reflected on the legacy of the attacks—connecting the event to broader questions around voting, polarization, and civil discourse.  Mr. King, Director of the Upper School, and Mr. Loomis, History Department Chair, who moderated the students’ discussion, were blown away not only by the upper schoolers’ deep knowledge of politics and history but also their willingness to listen to their peers.  “There are a lot of reasons to be worried about the future of our democratic experiment right now,” Mr. King said.  “But our students’ ability to engage in civil discourse with one another around such a difficult event in our recent history is one thing that makes me hopeful.”
