Athletics Highlights #15

Four spring season Athletes of the Week are announced:

Michael Abbey ’23 Track and Field: Michael put forth excellent performances on the track and field for the Hornets at the Red Raider Relays meet this past weekend. In a meet of 40+ schools, his jump of 44'3.5" was enough to win the triple jump competition. That mark is currently first in NYSAIS, and seventh in the state of New York. Michael also ran a great leg in the 4x400m relay which placed second overall with an NYSAIS leading time of 3:33.96.

Brendan DiStefano ’22 Track and Field: Brendan set a new Hackley School record in the 1600M run. On Friday, April 22, Brendan improved his personal record by nearly 3 seconds to run a 4:21.92. This new record replaces the previous one set by Jonah Gorevic (4:22.68) in May of 2021. In addition to Brendan’s individual 1600M race, he also helped the Hackley boys earn second place in the distance medley relay. Brendan’s 1600M performance this past weekend tops many stellar Hackley alumni and is hopefully a sneak peek at what’s ahead as Brendan finishes his high school running career. Congratulations to Brendan on a new school record!

Lucia Monteleone ’23 Girls Lacrosse: Lucia has scored 16 goals and 1 assist in the last four games including 5 goals and 1 assist in our dominant win over arch-rival Rye Country Day. Lucia is also integral in our redefend where she causes over 3 turnovers per game. Lucia is our leading scorer with 32 goals and 9 assists.

Skyler Safriet ’22 Track and Field: Skyler won the pentathlon at the Red Raider Relays at North Rockland High School over the weekend of April 22nd & 23rd. She earned a total of 2241 points to outscore all other girls in the following five events: shot put, long jump, high jump, 100M hurdles, and 800M run. The variety of events demonstrates Skyler’s versatility as an athlete and the incredible strength both mentally and physically that she has developed over her high school career as a track & field athlete. Congratulations to Sky on winning the pentathlon championship!
