Athletes of the Week – Week of Sept. 19

Every week, we will highlight some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Girls’ Varsity Soccer: Welyn Waterhouse ’23

Welyn has been a force on the Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team, most recently scoring three goals in a win against Sacred Heart of NYC. In total this season, Welyn leads the Hornets with 6 goals and 3 assists, accounting for almost 50% of all goals scored in the season. She has been on the varsity soccer team since 8th grade.

Football: Billy Maier ’23
Billy currently leads the football team in QB sacks, recording two in week 1 of the season — one for a safety — and two more in week 2. He is currently the leader in tackles for loss on the team.

Varsity Field Hockey: Chris Thompson ’23
Chris has scored goals in each of his last three contests. Most recently, his goal in the King game gave the Hornets the 1-0 win over a very good Fairchester opponent.

Girls’ Varsity Tennis: Asahi Goods ’24
Singles player Asahi is off to an incredible start this season! She is 4-0, and has been dominating her opponents. Asahi combines her aggressive and smart style of play with great hustle and a strong desire to win. Over her first four matches, she has won 48 total games and only lost 10. She also has been such a positive part of the team so far, both on the courts and off.
