Girls’ Varsity Soccer Draws a Draw with Dalton in Season’s Second Matchup

At an away match, Girls’ Varsity Soccer took on Dalton for the second time this season. Though the team previously beat Dalton 2-0, this match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Hackley had an explosive start, scoring within the first two minutes of the game. Ava Troso ’23 scored the goal while finishing a beautiful cross from Isabella Fauber ’23.

The team continued to work hard in the first half, taking nine shots and not letting in any goals. The defense, which consists of Lila O'Brien ’24, Elizabeth Rudge ’23, Sophia Petriello ’23, and Eleanor Neu ’23, played an excellent game. Dalton had many physical players who applied constant pressure to the Hackley defense. However, the defense held their own and did not give up any ground.

Unfortunately, about 10 minutes into the second half, Dalton managed to score inside the 18. Hackley was not deterred by this, instead using it to fuel their fire (this season’s motto). The Hornets continued to attack and play a strong game, connecting passes and shutting down Dalton. They had 18 shots, doubling their number from the first half. Goalie Alex Schiller ’24 was also a pivotal player with eight saves.

Despite Hackley’s intensity, the 80 minutes of play came to an end with the score still 1-1. After a brief break, the team went into overtime. Seemingly invigorated, Hackley went out and played with even more energy, creating multiple scoring opportunities. The Hornets had countless breakaways and close shots while keeping Dalton on the defensive. Any opportunities that arose for Dalton were swiftly dealt with by the Hackley defense.

Despite their intense drive, overtime came to an end with the score still 1-1. After this hard-fought game, the Girls’ Varsity Soccer team is looking forward to their Dave Allison game. They are hungry for the win and hope that the Hackley community will come to support. Get fired up and bring your pink!
