Athletes of the Week – Week of Oct. 10

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Girls' Varsity Soccer: Sofia Soares dos Santos ’23
Sophia scored the lone goal in a very competitive game on Randall’s Island against Trinity—the first goal of her HGVS career! The win keeps the soccer team in a very competitive race for the Ivy Title.

Varsity Football: Matt Kearns ’24
Matt was instrumental in the team’s 27-0 win over Morristown Beard School last weekend. Not only did he have two interceptions on defense, but he also had a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown to secure the win.

Varsity Field Hockey: Charlotte Rotenberg ’24
Charlotte has had 3 goals and 1 assist in the last three games. She has been dominant in the midfield all year and integral to the team on both offense and defense. Charlotte has been a big reason for the team's success this season so far.

Boys' Varsity Cross Country: Jackson Beatty ’25
Jackson took a risk as he raced across the field for the woods at the 50th Annual Manhattan College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8. His fast start and quick final kick earned him a personal best on the 4K course as he finished fourth on the Hackley Boys' Varsity Cross Country team.

Girls' Varsity Cross Country: Caitlin M. ’27
Caitlin demonstrated incredible resilience as she raced at the 50th Annual Manhattan College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8. During the back hills, she took a tumble and earned some serious back scrapes. Despite this incident, she persevered and managed to finish first for the Hackley Girls' Varsity Cross Country team.
