Hackley Girls' Varsity Soccer Beats Fieldston at Dave Allison Game

Last Friday, Hackley Girls’ Varsity Soccer took on Fieldston at Hackley’s Dave Allison game. The Hornets previously beat Fieldston at their homecoming game 4-2, and the pattern continued as Hackley pulled out a 3-0 win.

Hackley was explosive right out of the gate. At the 10-minute mark, Bella Fauber ’23 scored off a gorgeous strike from the top of the 18, which sailed right over the goalies head, assisted by Gabriella Petriello ’26Only eight minutes later, Hackley scored again. Petriello drove to the endline before hooking it into the goal. Welyn Waterhouse ’23 assisted.

Hackley continued to put pressure on the Fieldston defense, ending the half with 14 shots.

The crowds energy did not pause at the half. Instead, it was redirected toward appreciating the refs, known to the fans as Sir 1, 2, and 3. Each ref was serenaded and appropriately applauded whenever they gave the fans a wave.

Going into the second half, the fans’ energy was unmatched and seemed to fuel the girls. Callie Duggan ’23 and Fauber dominated the center of the field. They beautifully distributed the ball and created opportunities for their team, while shutting down any counterattacks Fieldston mounted. Defender Eleanor Neu ’23 also had a phenomenal game, finding the perfect combination between smart and physical, and even getting a shot off in the first half.

In the 78th minute of play, Waterhouse had a breakaway, resulting in a goal scored just outside the 18. This goal was assisted by Flor Guzman ’23

In this special game, we saw every player from the Hackley Hornets step onto the field, including a fan favorite, Jordy Singer ’24, who, after much shouted requests, got her moment to shine.

At the final horn, the fans enthusiasm was clear as they stormed the field to celebrate with the team.

The girls appreciated everyone who showed up to support them. The crowd made the game all the more special. If you want to continue to support the girls, they have two games this week. Wednesday they are away at Riverdale, and Friday is the senior game! Please get hyped and show up to support your seniors, two of whom have been on the team since they were in 8th grade—shout out to Sophia Petriello and Welyn Waterhouse.
