Hornets Battle Valiantly in Championships, BVS Nabs Title

This week, more than 100 of our fall student-athletes competed in NYSAIS Championship games. The players and coaches of all the fall teams have made huge strides this season. Congratulations to all our Hornets for making it to the championships!

The Varsity Field Hockey team had a great game against Rye Country Day School. The Hornets had one goal scored against them in the first quarter, and that would be the only goal of the game. The team fought valiantly until the end.

Boys’ Varsity Cross Country finished fourth overall, with three boys finishing in the top 25: Asher Beck ’24 in 2nd, Jasper Quattrone ’25 in 11th, and Rafael Castro ’25 in 24th. Asher will be running in the Federation Championship on Nov. 19 due to his outstanding race. Girls’ Varsity Cross Country finished twelfth overall, with two girls placing in the top 25: Caitlin M. ’27 in 20th and Emma C. ’27 in 25th. The team has a core of young runners who have high expectations for the future.

Remi Myers ’24 and Riya M. ’27 played a hard-fought tennis match, taking both sets to the very end. Eventually, they were defeated 6-7, 6-7. With both players returning to the Girls’ Varsity Tennis team next year, there is excitement about the 2023 season.

Boys’ Varsity Soccer fought from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game up at the end of regulation. Playing to the best of their ability, they were still tied at the end of overtime. The game eventually came down to penalty kicks, where the Hornets pulled ahead and nabbed the championship title. This is the first time in Hackley’s history that the boys’ soccer team has won both the League and State Championship in the same year! Read more about the game here.
