Athletes of the Week – Week of Nov. 7

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Varsity Cross Country: Emma C. ’27
Emma had a terrific final race for the Hornets at the NYSAIS Cross Country Championships on Nov. 7 at Van Cortlandt Park. Her 5K time of 22:36 earned her 25th place overall as she scored second for Hackley. What made the finish even more impressive was that Emma was bouncing back from an injury. She still has four more seasons of Hackley XC to run!

Varsity Field Hockey: Lucia Monteleone ’23
Lucia, a captain of the team, has been a solid offensive and defensive threat for the Hornets this entire season. In the semifinal game against Chapin, she had a goal and played a major part in the shutout the Hornets posted.

Varsity Football: Will Rao ’23
In the last game of the season, Will was exceptional in his play. Moving to fullback, he had 80 yards rushing, including the game-winning touchdown, and had six tackles on defense.

Girls’ Varsity Soccer: Isabella Fauber ’23
Bella has had an incredible season for Hackley. In the quarterfinal win over Dalton, Bella scored both goals for the Hornets to advance the team to the NYSAIS championships.

Girls’ Varsity Tennis: Remi Myers ’24 and Riya M. ’27
This doubles duo had an exceptional NYSAIS playoff run. They went 2-1 in the championships, losing in the final 6-7, 6-7 to a very good Horace Mann team. With both players returning for the 2023 season, there is much to be excited about.
