Athletes of the Week – Week of Dec. 12

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Track and Field: Ashley Hollingsworth ’26
Ashley had a great debut in our first meet of the indoor track season. She ran a NYSAIS qualifying time of 8.26 in the 55-meter dash, and she ran a team best time of 47.62 in the 300m run. This was good enough to earn a top-ten finish in a field of more than 80 competitors.

Wrestling: Cole Joseph ’23
Wrestling captain Cole went 8-0 this week with eight pins in wins over Stepinac, Horace Mann, Xavier, Trinity, Port Jefferson, Irvington, Martin Luther, and Mt. Vernon. He also became the fifth wrestler in Hackley history to earn his 100th career win. Click here to read more about that historic accomplishment.

Girls’ Varsity Basketball: Ashley Currie ’24
In two games this past week, Ashley scored 32 points and had nine rebounds and five steals to bring the Hornets’ record to 5-1. She has been a dominant force on the team in scoring and rebounding.

Girls’ Foil Fencing: Zizi D. ’27
Zizi had a strong performance in her first varsity fencing meet versus The Masters School on Dec. 6. She led the girls’ foil squad to their first season victory (8-1) by winning her three bouts 5-2, 5-0, and 5-0.

Boys’ Varsity Basketball: Isaiah Ndzibah ’23
Isaiah is having a breakout season for the Hornets. In his last two games, he averaged 22 points and seven rebounds. In his most recent game, he led all scorers with 26 points, hitting four three-pointers. Isaiah has been a constant presence on the court with his play both offensively and defensively.
