Athletes of the Week – Week of Jan. 9

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Fencing: Afsana Dhali 23
Team captain Afsana led the girls’ epee team to three wins, including a 7-2 win over RCDS on Jan. 6.

Track and Field: Baraka Middleton ’24
Baraka had a great week for the indoor track team. He turned in a mark in the long jump (17'3") and a time in the 55-meter hurdles (9.95s) that qualify for the NYSAIS Championship meet in February. This was Baraka’s first time running the hurdles in a meet. He also anchored the Hornets’ 4x200 meter relay, running a blazing split while doing so.

Girls Swimming: Kayce Park ’25
Leading Hackley to a 90-61 win over Riverdale, Kayce won the 100 Backstroke and 200 Individual Medley. She also was a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay. The Hornets are a perfect 3-0 to start the season.

Boys Basketball: Jack Perlman ’25
Jack has played outstanding in the last three games, with 17.5 points per game, shooting 66% from the field. In those three contests, the Hornets are 3-0, including an exciting overtime win over Horace Mann (54-45).

Girls Basketball: Enya Walsh ’24
Enya has been dominant on the court. In the two games since returning from break, she has averaged a double-double with 11 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. The team is 2-0 since our return from break.

Wrestling: Harper Kelsey ’24
Harper has been instrumental on the mat this season. Willing to wrestle at three different weight classes, Harper has assisted in winning every duel meet the team has wrestled in. Most recently, her 3-1 win in the RCDS match helped lift the Hornets to a great win.
