MS Debate Team Earns 2nd Place Overall in Latest Tournament

Hackley's Middle School debate team earned 2nd place overall at the Tuckahoe Middle School tournament on Saturday, Jan. 21! With nine teams entered and 27 debaters participating overall, Hackley continues to demonstrate its commitment to the Middle School debate program.

Special recognition goes out to eighth grade debaters—Nico K., Valentina C., David G., and Jonah G.—who all earned speaker awards for 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 15th place, respectively. Hackley's top team of eighth graders—Shreyas K., Rani B., and Zach W.—finished with an impressive 3-1 record. The team debated such thought-provoking topics as whether parents should control school curriculums, the implementation of a flat tax in the United States, and the pros and cons of streaming services for the music industry.

A big thank you to our six judges for the day: Robin Kliatchko, Phoebe Abrahms '24, Angela Croce '25, Vivek Malik '25, Nina Zeltser '25, and Ben Iaderosa '26. Without these volunteers, we would not be able to send such a high number of teams to these events.

The next tournament will take place on March 4 at the Dalton School in Manhattan. Keep up the great work, Hackley debaters!
