Athletes of the Week – Week of Feb. 27

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

All State and All County Wrestler: Cole Joseph ’23
 
Cole is the second all state wrestler for Hackley School in its long history. He placed 6th at the New York State Federation Championships last weekend, defeating two wrestlers who were ranked in the top 5 in the state. Cole and his coaches have much to be proud of. 
 
Girls’ Basketball: Sophia Petriello ’23
Sophia ended her career on a high note, averaging 17 points, four rebounds, and four steals in her last two contests. A starter for the Hornets, Sophia will be greatly missed next year. Congratulations on a great career!
  
Indoor Track and Field: Linda Ohia-Enyia ’25 
Linda finished the year on a high note at the NYSAIS Championship meet. She saved her best for last, running a season best time in the 300-meter dash at 45.21 seconds. Linda also ran a crucial leg of the girls’ 4x200m relay, which earned her third place overall in the prestigious meet. 
 
Boys’ Squash: Ben Korengold ’23
Ben went 3-1 this past weekend at the squash Nationals in the No. 1 spot. He helped bring home the bronze in Division 3. His 3-2 win after being down 2-0 was essential in the Hornets placing in the top three.
 
Girls’ Foil Fencing: Zizi D. ’27 
Zizi had an amazing season and year end. She finished the season by placing first in the ISFL season standings with a 42-2 season record. She also captured the title at the ISFL Individual League Championships and led the girls’ foil team to their first ISFL League title since 2010.
 
Boys’ Foil Fencing: Joshua Lee ’25 
Joshua had an outstanding season. He finished the season by placing first in the ISFL season standings with a 33-0 season record. He also captured the title at the ISFL Individual League Championships and led the boys’ foil team to their fourth consecutive undefeated ISFL League and ISFL Team Championship titles.
 
Boys’ Saber Fencing: Sam Sanders ’24
Captain of the boys’ fencing team, Sam finished the season by placing first in the ISFL season standings with an 18-0 season record. He also placed fifth at the ISFL Individual League Championships. Sam led the boys’ saber team to their fourth consecutive ISFL League and ISFL Team Championship titles.
